The classic novel, The Great Gatsby got its own feature film in 2013, with Leonardi DiCaprio playing Mr Gatsby. And, as audiences loved it, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic is now set to be adapted as an animated feature film with author William Joyce attached to direct.
This is the first time the 1925 novel will be turned into an animated film. According to reports by The Hollywood Reporter, Brian Selznick will pen the screenplay; he’s best known for adapting 2017’s Wonderstruck. Michael Siegel and DNEG Senior VP Creative Production David Prescott will produce the project along with Joyce.
The Great Gatsby continues to leave a powerful spell over its readers, but much of it can be credited to Fitzgerald’s writing. He created a dreamscape to some degree and has charmed filmmakers since the era of silent cinema. “The previous film versions were constrained by live-action, but innovative animation could finally realize the elusive quality of the novel”, Joyce said in a statement.
